Who is Nafiz Yürekli?
Nafiz Yürekli was born on June 10, 1928, in Kale Mahallesi, Eğirdir, to parents Emine and Ahmet Yürekli.
A bright and responsible child with a strong sense of justice, he completed primary school at Eğirdir Zafer Primary School and attended Antalya High School for his secondary education. In 1953, he graduated as a Civil Engineer from Istanbul Technical University. Throughout his education, he demonstrated intelligence, diligence, and a commitment to success, which he quickly carried into his professional life.
In 1960, Nafiz Yürekli founded Nafiz Yürekli General Construction, followed by Nafiz Yürekli Holding, which quickly became one of Turkey’s leading companies. The company completed major construction projects in 41 locations across Turkey, including dams, ports, irrigation and drainage systems, viaducts, roads, railways, tunnels, bridges, and factories. Most of his works remain functional and relevant today.
Between 1968 and 1985, Nafiz Yürekli frequently ranked among Turkey’s top taxpayers.
In 1962, he married Dilek Erim Yürekli, and they had four children: Ahmet (1964), Ayşegül (1966), İpek (1967), and Zeynep (1969).
In 1969, he established the Nafiz Yürekli Education Foundation, which became one of Turkey’s prominent educational foundations. He funded the foundation entirely, providing education opportunities and scholarships to hundreds of students in the Eğirdir – Isparta region until his passing.
Despite being a very busy businessman, Nafiz Yürekli always prioritized his family, setting an example as a devoted father and husband.
He passed away on December 10, 1994, in Cleveland, USA, while receiving treatment.
After his death, his wife, Dilek Yürekli, sought to fulfill his dream by constructing high-standard educational buildings for the Tourism and Vocational High School, which at the time operated out of a warehouse. She funded and supported the project, building a modern school and a 24-room training hotel named in his honor.
The architectural projects of the school and hotel were designed by Nafiz Yürekli’s daughter and son-in-law, İpek Yürekli İnceoğlu and Arda İnceoğlu. The school building includes 12 classrooms and 3 workshops, while the hotel building features 24 rooms, a restaurant, and a seminar hall.
Since October 17, 2003, Nafiz Yürekli Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School has been serving in the field of Tourism and Hospitality. In 2023, it was prioritized for earthquake strengthening projects by the Ministry of Education and underwent renovations.
As part of this renovation project, in 2024, the entire Nafiz Yürekli Application Hotel was renovated under a new donation protocol signed with the Ministry of Education by Nafiz Yürekli’s daughter and son-in-law, Ayşegül Yürekli Şengör and Cem Şengör. All rooms were updated to five-star standards, and the hotel reopened as Eğirdir’s first and only luxury boutique hotel after just five months.
Nafiz Yürekli successfully instilled his deep love for his hometown, Eğirdir, and its values in his family, who reside in Istanbul. His wife, Dilek Yürekli, their children Oya & Ahmet Yürekli, Ayşegül & Cem Şengör, İpek & Arda İnceoğlu, Zeynep & Kutal Görkay, and grandchildren Ayşe Şengör Onger & Ali Onger, Ali Şengör, Yasemin Yürekli, Emre İnceoğlu, Memo İnceoğlu, Ela Görkay, and Cem Görkay, all maintain strong ties with Eğirdir.
